- El bejarano Roberto Heras, del equipo US Postal,
confirmó los pronósticos y fue el mejor
en las complicadísimas rampas del alto del Angliru,
en la decimoquinta etapa que había comenzado en
Gijón. Heras fue siempre arropado por su
equipo en una jornada muy complicada, con mucha lluvia
y en la que la afición asturiana dio una auténtica
lección de deportividad. En las primeras rampas
del Angliru, tras superar la capital de Riosa, Heras planificó
su victoria. Aitor González, del Kelme-Costa
Blanca, primero forzó la marcha y luego no pudo
seguir a Heras. Tampoco pudo cazar al bejarano Joseba
Beloki, del Once-Eroski, ni Francesco Casagrande,
del Fassa Bortolo, ni Iban Mayo, del Euskaltel-Euskadi.
Oscar Sevilla confirmó que no podía
enfrentarse a Heras y que empieza a perder potencia. La
clave de la carrera se produjo cuando Aitor González
forzó el ritmo en las primeras rampas del Angliru.
Heras siguió sus pasos. Sevilla se quedó.
Aitor fue de más a menos y Heras de menos a más.
Cuando el de Kelme tuvo que aminorar la marcha, la carrera
quedó abierta para Heras. El líder del US
Postal fue ganando metros hasta llegar a la cumbre y enfundarse
el jersey oro. La acción de Aitor González
va a ser muy comentada en la jornada de descanso, aunque
del vasco sigue con opciones de conseguir el triunfo final,
teniendo en cuenta la contra reloj de Madrid que le favorece.
Antes, todos tendrán que enfrentarse a La Covatilla,
donde el más fuerte de la carrera, Roberto Heras,
competirá ante sus paisanos y en un terreno que
conoce mejor que nadie. La carrera quedó muy igualada
en los primeros puestos con Heras, Aitor González,
Sevilla, Beloki e Iban Mayo. Estos cinco
corredores han quedado separados por sólo dos minutos
y dieciséis segundos.

- It
has been a long time since the last time we could see
a show as the one we saw today on the climb to the Angliru.
The performances we saw today had been almost incredible.
The most interesting thing was the great quantity of protagonists
that took part in this adventure. There have been great
main actors and great secondary actors in a perfect scenery.
Besides, when the last rider crossed the finish line,
the stage did not finish. This stage will not be over
until the riders get to Madrid on the 29th of September.
The
climb to Angliru was so spectacular that everything that
happened before today has become unimportant. Aitor
Osa got to the side of the famous mountain with a
slight advantage. The favourite riders were travelling
all together in a group where the Kelme men, lead by Tauler,
were imposing their rhythm. Oscar Sevilla did not
seem to feel very comfortable, but he was trying to do
his best. But then Tauler gave up his place to
Aitor González. He took control of the group
so hard that he was able to gain several metres of advantage.
Heras saw him and followed his wheel. González
looked back and he just saw Heras and at the
back, Sevilla´s amazed look who could not believe
what his eyes were watching; his team mate was taking
his great rival to a position that was only good for Heras.
Finally
Heras broke away and Aitor Gonzñalez climbed
to the most hated and most loved top on his own, after
having left Sevilla in the most horrible hell.
Heras
reached the top alone and became leader. Beloki,
who came back to life again, was second and therefore
he can fight for the final triumph again. Aitor González
who reached the top on the fifth position, 2:16 behind
the winner, is second in the overall standings 35 seconds
behind the new leader; he is followed by Sevilla
who is 1:08 behind Heras.
Vicente
Belda could not hide his irritation. Sevilla,
quite unusual in him, was very angry and did not want
to hear anything about his team mate Aitor González.
Anyway, this is going to be a never ending story. It may
end in Madrid, it may end in La Covatilla. Tomorrow is
a day off for resting or to think about all these events
happened today.
